We always have the most amazing time visiting Walt Disney World. From the spectacularly themed attractions to the tasty treats (did someone say Dole Whip), we love it all!! This time we took advantage of one of the Disney PhotoPass Services, Memory Maker, to make sure we captured all of our most memorable moments.
What is Memory Maker?
Memory Maker is one of many Disney PhotoPass Services offered at Walt Disney World. It is a separate item purchased in addition to your theme park tickets. When purchased you will receive unlimited digital downloads of all your Disney PhotoPass photos and videos. You also have the benefit of:
- Select Attraction photos and videos
- Select Character dining photos
- Magic Shots – which may feature Disney Characters or other effects, added to your photos
- Digital borders and stickers to personalize your photos
- Discounts on prints of your photos
Another fabulous feature is that you can not only download your own Disney PhotoPass photos, but also those on your Disney Family & Friends List who share media with you. This allows you to get all the Disney PhotoPass photos of everyone in your travel party with the purchase of a single Memory Maker. This is especially great for large families traveling together!
All of your Disney PhotoPass photos from within the 30 days will be available to download until that media expires (currently the expiration time period is 45 days from the date they were taken). Once they expire, they can no longer be purchased or downloaded. Your 30 days starts from the first photo you download. (Although I have heard that you can purchase and extension if you contact Disney PhotoPass Services, however I have not tried this and it is never a guarantee). You can view and download online or even through the My Disney Experience mobile app which is fabulous when you are in the Parks!
Taking photos couldn't be easier. Photographers are available throughout the theme parks, at select resorts and even at select Character meals. You can link photos to your Disney account with either a Disney PhotoPass card, MagicBand, park ticket, Memory Maker card or annual pass. Some specialty photos/videos including attraction videos require MagicBands to link them to your Disney account.
So let's talk cost. Prices of course are always subject to change. Today the price of Memory Maker is $199.00. If you purchase in advance (which can be done anytime before your trip and can even be done a the time of booking your vacation package) the cost is slightly lower at $169.00. Both purchases are nonrefundable. If you purchase in advance it does not include photos taken within 3 days of purchase. So if you forget to add it to your package or wait to the very end, you will have to wait to purchase the full price service to ensure all of your vacation photos are available.
Currently there is also a One Day Memory Maker available. At this time it is $69.00 in the My Disney Experience mobile app once you’ve linked at least one Disney PhotoPass photo to your account from the day to which you plan to purchase the One Day Memory Maker. You are also able to add Memory Maker One Day at Walt Disney World Resort theme park ticket windows and Disney PhotoPass Centers.
Our Memory Maker Experience
We had the most amazing vacation at Walt Disney World. It is truly my happy place! The Memory Maker did just as it says in the name. It helped us make more memories as a family that we will cherish a lifetime. Photographers were easy to find and so fun! A few hours into most family vacations my kids are usually already complaining about taking pictures. Not this trip. The kids were actually in search of Disney PhotoPass Photographers. It became sort of a game. Who could find the best!
We got so many special shots. More than I could imagine. For the beginning of the trip it was just me and the kids, since Dad had to travel for work. The Memory Maker allowed me to be in the photos rather than behind the camera. Yes Disney PhotoPass Photographers will use your phone/camera to take photos for you. But if you have ever traveled yourself with kids you know how hard it is to juggle the simplest things. Memory Maker is just another way Walt Disney World helps to make family vacations a time to relax, get a little crazy and enjoy time together.
Memory Maker also captured moments that you can't capture yourself. The ride photos and videos are just magical! We had been dreaming of experiencing Seven Dwarfs Mine Train for almost a year during our trip planning. Yes the ride was all that we imagined and more. Thanks to Memory Maker we have that memory of our first ride on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train forever!
Is Memory Maker Worth the Cost?
The question of whether Memory Maker is worth the expense is very personal. I can't make that decision for your family. Everyone's travel budget is different and everyone's expectations and wants and needs on vacation varies. All that I can give you is my experience an opinion for our family.
After experiencing the Memory Maker, I can tell you for our family it is most definitely worth the cost. In fact the memories it captured were priceless! We took over 200 fabulous photos/videos to download. We love the Magic Shots and the attraction videos! Such neat added touches. It was also fun to enhance our photos with frames, stickers and even signatures of some of the Characters. Memory Maker captured magical moments that we will cherish for a lifetime.
