San Francisco in the Summertime

Posted by:

If you follow us on social media, you know that last weekend we had a fun filled holiday in San Francisco. We lit up Instagram with our adventure. Four days and 20 miles by foot later (yes we walked 20 miles over the weekend), we are back. And after a brief moment to recuperate and soak my aching feet, I am ready to tell the tale.

It only took me 42 years to get to California (not counting a brief touch down on my the way back from Hawaii 12 years ago). So you can imagine my anticipation and excitement for a four day kid free weekend in the Golden State for a wedding. From the sunshine to the surf and turf, it didn't disappoint.

Of course this being my first time in the city, I had to hit all the hot spots in the tourist world. It's kind of what I do. We walked the Golden Gate Bridge both ways! I loved the views. They were spectacular. There is also a sense of danger as cars and bicycles rush by. Not a sensation that Steve liked, but I got him to pose for a few pictures. Something he is also not particularly fond of (which explains his visual absence in a lot of our posts).

We went a little off the beaten path for dinner. I love food trucks! They're kind of a passion of mine. So when I heard about the SoMa StrEat Food Park, we had to check it out. There we such yummy treats everywhere.

After exploring every nook and cranny the park had to offer, we found a cozy bench in the tented area, and enjoyed a fabulous feast including a happy hour pitcher of sangria! Steve found some spicy empanadas to sink his teeth into. I went a little more adventurous. I am not a vegan, but I can appreciate high quality fresh made delicious food. That's exactly what I found at the No No Burger truck.

I always believe in asking what they suggest. The answer was an resounding Volcano Burger. It was in one word AMAZING! It has their special house-made veggie patty stacked with lettuce, pickles, melted cheddar, fried jalapenos, grilled pineapple, bacon, raw onions and Teriyaki-Sriracha sauce on a grilled bun. Oh my goodness! I was so taken a back I took a giant bite before realizing I forgot to take a picture.

We capped off the evening at John Foley's Dueling Piano Bar. These guys were excellent. We sang the night away with good drinks and even better friends! Just another Friday night, California style.

Saturday was wedding day. It was a beautiful sunny day! Perfect wedding weather. The ceremony was held at St. Ignatius Parish. The architecture of the church is spectacular!

The reception at San Francisco City Hall. The venue was impressive to say the least. Fun was had by all! You can't go wrong with a dancing dragon show.

And look at this cake. Breathtaking! Right?!?

After all too brief sleep, it was time for Sunday Funday! We started with bubble tea and Dim Sum in Chinatown.

I love Dim Sum. It is something that we don't get too much of in Cleveland. I admit I went a little crazy! My favorite is the steamed pork buns. YUM!!!!

We then explored Fisherman's Warf. Saw the sea lions on Pier 39. So cool!

They looked to have about as much energy as we did after all our walking!

While in the area I had to stop at the San Francisco mecca of chocolate, Ghirardelli Square. We picked up some tasty treats to take back to the kids and to thank Grandma for babysitting! Let me tell you the Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Brownie Bar is to die for. I never knew there were so many other things to do there besides chocolate. We stumbled into an Etsy Pop-up Shop with Local San Francisco artists. We also had drinks and the Almost ‘World Famous’ Tommy Tots at The Pub. Delicious!!!!

We finished our adventure down the winding road of Lombard Street. The gardens are grand and the views spectacular!

West coast vs east coast time being what it is, Monday there was barely time for breakfast and a short Starbucks run before heading off to the airport. Thanks San Francisco. We had a great time with memories to last a lifetime! Hope it's not another 42 years until I return!

  2. Sounds like a fun adventure with lots of yummy food. That scenery looks way better than our hot, hot summer too. An ocean breeze would be so nice right now!
