In our efforts to stay out of the cold and have some fun yet educational playtime, we headed to the mall and The Painted Penguin. What is The Painted Penguin? It is a family friendly place to create cool artwork that you can take home the same day!
First you pick from thousands for plaster/bisque pieces. There are animals, superheroes, trolls, holiday items and so much more. Then you take your item to the counter and pay the lovely Painted Penguin employee who will then help you pick out your paints and get you situated at a table with the rest of your needed painting supplies, including a disposable apron for the kids. Such a great idea. The kids get to be messy crafty kids and you get to leave the painting, mucky mess behind!
Next you let your creativity run wild. The painting is so much fun. It lets the kids explore their artistic side and fosters their imagination in the process. My Jude loves everything superheroes, so his choice was simple. He picked Batman. Joel has lately been obsessed by dogs so he painted a rainbow ninja puppy.
After your statue is painted to your liking the Painted Penguin employees take over. They take your items to the Igloo to dry and spray your item either shiny or glittery to make sure your artwork lasts forever.
The process takes around 20 to 30 minutes. We headed to dinner while we waited. Then you can come back and inspect your creations have them wrapped up and take them home to display.
So check out The Painted Penguin website to see if there is a location where you live. No Painted Penguin in your area? Never fear! There are plenty of places to paint and craft out there. Check your area for other local ceramic studios. If you rather craft at home, Amazon has a lot of at home ceramic painting kits for kids. So explore your artistic side and get painting! Feel free to share pictures of your masterpieces with us. We would love to see them.

So fun! A great opportunity to get crafty and not have to clean up!
ReplyDeleteI used to love these paint your own ceramics and since when I was a kid. Now that I'm a mother of four, I cannot imagine taking them all there at once! Perhaps it would be a nice thing to do with one or two at a time.
ReplyDeleteIt can be a little overwhelming. The staff there is really helpful and I went with my husband so we were able to tag team the kids.
